NSCDC Nabs Illegal Miner, 7 Others In Oyo

The Oyo State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday, paraded an illegal miner and seven  others for various crimes committed within the state.

Samuel Opebiyi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, during a press briefing at the headquarters in Ibadan, explained that one of the suspects, Bande Mohammed, male, 45 was arrested on Saturday, 3rd February, 2024, at 1500hrs at a Fulani settlement popularly called Budo Musa under Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State for allegedly dealing in illegal mining activities at a neighbouring Community known as Dabo-Zamia village.

The suspect is said to be in collaboration with another suspect of illegal mining, who is at large.

He added that One Mallam Useni Yoyo, male, 45, was nabbed by a combined team of NSCDC Agro Rangers for allegedly grazing his herd of cattle with crops on farmland of an innocent citizens of Ilora Community and thereafter willfully destroying the farm produce worth about five million naira, without compensation.

Part of the text of the release reads, “In a case of conspiracy and stealing, the State Commandant, Augustine Padonu parades two suspects identified as Olalekan Ibrahim, male, 25 years, native of Oyo State Ibadan from Sagbe Area of Abosi Olere , behind IITA and Akinpelu Lekan, male 25 years, who both specialized in motor spare parts theft, especially trailer parts, from shop owners in Sagbe , Moniya area of Ibadan, using face mask warmer for their illicit operation in order to avoid being recognized. They were arrested around 04:15hrs of the morning. Items recovered from them includes, 1 tipper gear selector, 1 cap gear, 1 gear flag and 8 belt buckles.

“Also, two suspects, Folarin Bankole male, 52 years and Olokun Olawale male, 33 years who preliminary investigation revealed used their point of sales (POS) machine named (Brighter Golden Links Clothier) to fraudulently receive money from a cellphone forcefully collected from an unsuspecting members of the public at a gunpoint in Akobo area of Ibadan during an armed robbery operation in November last year by yet to be identified fleeing armed robbery gang who went with the complainants Highlander Toyota Jeep.

“Meanwhile, two other suspects Abdulkadir Sahadu male 50 years and Afolabi Moses male 44 years were also paraded for stealing a Bajaj Motorcycle with registration BDJ 413 UG reportedly parked at CAC Oke Agbara, Ashi, Bodija, on 2nd February, 2024, around 11:26hrs.

“Commandant Augustine Padonu hereby urges members of the public to be vigilant and also ready to provide useful information to NSCDC and other Security agencies so as to collectively fight crime and criminality in the State. The suspects will be arraigned in Court after the completion of the investigation,” Commandant Augustine Padonu stated.
